Calculate Semester GPA From Credits and Grade Points
A semester GPA is normally a credit-weighted average. For each included course, multiply the course credits by its grade points to find quality points. Add all quality points, then divide by the total included credits.
The formula is GPA = total quality points ÷ total GPA credits. The live table exposes every course contribution so a high-credit course is not treated like a one-credit course and excluded rows do not silently change the denominator.
Worked GPA Example with Credits
Suppose a student completes three included courses: an A worth 4.0 points over 3 credits, a B worth 3.0 points over 4 credits, and a C worth 2.0 points over 2 credits. The courses contribute 12, 12 and 4 quality points.
The total is 28 quality points over 9 credits. Dividing 28 by 9 gives 3.111, which displays as 3.11 when two decimal places are selected. If the institution rounds differently, its official policy takes priority.
