Static vs Dynamic QR Codes and Expiry

A static QR code stores its final data directly in the pattern. It does not depend on this generator after download, has no scan counter and does not expire on its own. A website QR code works only while the encoded destination remains online, and printed content cannot be changed without creating and replacing the QR code.

A dynamic QR code normally stores a hosted redirect URL. The provider can change that redirect and record scan analytics, which requires a server, account and ongoing service.
